A Few Nights At: Brown’s Mayfair

Brown's Hotel, Mayfair, London, Impossibly Imperfect, On the Ten, Travel Blogger, Luxury Travel, Luxury Hotels, MayfairIt’s hard to not fall absolutely in love with the historical Brown’s Hotel in London’s very charming yet wildly chic Mayfair neighborhood in the West End. Brown’s is conveniently situated among the best shopping a girl could ask for along nearby Bond Street, not to mention right next door to the Globe Trotter store (have you seen their new collaboration with Charlotte Olympia?!?) Brown’s has found itself standing the test of time in true British style.

Pulling up to Brown’s, which happens to be London’s first hotel having opened its doors in 1837, the hotel has that quintessential London class. While it’s nice to check in at the newest (re: hottest) spots in a city, I have to admit there is indeed something to be said for a place that has been hosting royals for nearly two centuries. The exceptional service I had at Brown’s was nothing short of perfection. From the moment I arrived the entire staff made sure that I not only felt at home but that if there were anything I needed I was helped within minutes, something that I am finding more and more rare even at the nicest of new hotels.

We were at Brown’s for four glorious nights and I could have stayed a month. I rarely stay in at night when I’m traveling as I love to see the city but we did in fact have a night in since I’d been traveling for nearly two weeks at this point and I cannot complain, it was such an enjoyable night. Room service, a great bottle of wine in our cozy apartment sized room was just what this girl needed.

The property that was originally 11 individual townhouses was renovated not too long ago by famed Olga Polizzi’s eminently stylish eye – she undoubtedly brought a fresh, bright new look to the hotel’s 115 rooms. Needless to say each has its own stylish personality – my room, decorated with vibrant greens and bold purples felt right at home to me!   As a New Yorker I gravitate towards walking cities. If I can’t walk from neighborhood to neighborhood then I’m probably not going to be going there. Brown’s is just minutes from other neighborhoods, we walked to dinner in SoHo two nights in a row and found ourselves over in Neil’s Yard in Covent Garden in under 30 minutes. Oh and that oh so chic Sketch? It’s about an 8 minute walk!

Definitely enjoy breakfast at Hix’s

Breakfast at Hix’s is a must. While there is sure to be ample business meetings taking place around you it is not stuffy in the slightest,  the food was great, service impeccable and the coffee was strong. Three things that are considered requirements in my book! Each morning we had their English Breakfast so I had the chance to try out a range of plates, my favorite was without a doubt the Belgium waffles. Simply scrumptious!

A must do: Afternoon Tea

It is a given that enjoying afternoon tea will inevitably become a staple in one’s day while in London. I found that I enjoyed making the rounds to the usual spots but that often times the hidden gems were right under my nose. Brown’s English Tea Room is complete with 17 teas, including their own blend, which should be enjoyed alongside their delicious scones, cakes and pastries next to one of the cozy fireplaces. It was a divine afternoon!
