Get in the Know: LIE Collection

Designers and brands who have slipped under my radar are seemingly far and few in between these days. Yet somehow I had not come across Lie Sangbong, who established his eponymous brand in 1985 and quickly became one of Korea’s preeminent designers – a true craftsman and artist. His collections are nothing short of architectural fashion statement makers. The intricate pieces are a beautiful blend of  innovative techniques, unique fabric combinations and traditional influences. The LIE Collection was created a mere three years ago that resonates with a slightly younger demographic. The pieces are unique, and standout well in a very cluttered fashion space. When I visited the beautiful Meatpacking store here in NYC I couldn’t help but gravitate towards the high-waisted, wide-legged cropped pants and the perfectly tailored dresses, I simply was a kid in a candy store.

“My goal is always to move design forward in a way that pays respect to tradition while providing something that is relevant for the present. The confident, intelligent women of New York have an innate understanding and appreciation for this balance,” says Mr. Lie.

Any designer who can grasp what a New York woman wants and needs deserves a pat on the back and Mr. Lie does. His silhouettes are structured but not stiff, bold and impactful yet beautiful.

To say I’ve found a new designer I’m head over heels for is an understatement.
